There is no cookie cutter to making it work but if you can follow the process and work within the responsibility it brings, the out come could be marvelous.Mark has laid out an ideal understanding of what a youth ministry, or in my opinion any ministry, team should look and function like. These steps could help all ministries and congregation set a clear foundation for ministry for many years.I highly recommend this book to all leaders in the church, from youth workers, to pastors, to volunteers in ministry. If we can all communicate and work together the foundation will be that much stronger and ministry will work that much easier.

Very useful, very insightful. It is a book I've underlined, dog-eared and followed up by going on their website. Mark DeVries is a voice of wisdom against the quick fix ideas that are proven messes that will not take you forward in ministry. What he is asking for is not easy but worth it. I waited to buy this and read it, maybe I was ready to listen, maybe you are too.

This is an excellent and easy read. I would venture to say that this is the best read currently on the market for youth ministry. I would also advise picking up the audible version to go along with the hard copy. It makes it easy to "read" (listen) as you are driving, etc.

I have to say that this book has been very helpful to our youth ministry. It can be painful to read as it addresses a lot of things we were doing wrong, but this book works so long as you actually put into practice the things it mentions. Prepare to do a lot of hard work at implementing the structure necessary to build a sustainable youth ministry, but also be prepared to have the peace of mind knowing you are on the right track and heading in a positive direction! The blueprints given in this book are timeless and will always be relevant to every youth ministry! Sustainable Youth Ministry is a good book on youth ministry. It shows a lot of the nuts and bolts that can easily be forgotten like making sure you have volunteers well in advance, building a community among the members, etc. His advice is good here.I, however, find one gaping hole in his approach: he seems satisfied with "butts in seats." I think youth ministry needs to go beyond just getting kids there to having them become transformed through prayer and service to become apostles. I've found this is essential for long-term youth ministry and Davies dedicated scant time to this.
