As a Theology major, I have discovered that the Wisdom writings can be confusing and convoluted. Thank goodness for Mr. Crenshaw's illumination, not overly academic or fussy in an "ivory tower" way. Here finally is an understandable, straightforward text which carefully urges one into the understanding of the ancient writings, while factually keeping to to the parameters of Wisdom texts. I enjoyed this work very much!
After reviewing various books for upcoming seminary class, going with this one.

Had to read this for a class on Wisdom literature of the Bible. Really liked it. Found some deep ideas about God and the nature of reality that I'll carry with me.
Not so hot
as described
Crenshaw's book is a good overview of Wisdom literature, and an adequate text for an introductory course on the topic (alongside similar texts by Clifford and Murphy). However, the Kindle version is poorly formatted: there are no page numbers and the footnotes are not hyperlinked, which means that you have to manually scroll to the end of each chapter to consult the notes. This sloppy formatting is totally unacceptable for a $16 book. Shame on the publisher. If it were adequately formatted I would give it 4 stars.
Maybe I didn't know what Old Testament Wisdom meant. I was looking for interpretation of the profits, but that was not what it was.
