I like the pictures but they are crammed into one page. It will be difficult to show detail because the details are so small. I like the pictures but think it would be better if it was on two pages maybe. The book is kind of deceptive because you get two copies of each picture. I do like that the back of the pictures are black, so if you use a sheet behind what you are working on, markers won't bleed through to other work. Plus you won't see it even if it does. I don't like when the pictures bleed through.
This is a lovely book of coloring designs based on gardens. The designs are whimsical with gates, fountains, birdhouses, animals, fairy houses, and even a young girl on a swing. There are all sorts of elements which bring me right into the garden setting while I am coloring in the book. Having a wide variety of green pens/markers/pencils will make coloring in this book even more fun.The designs are detailed and a few have intricate and rather small areas to color. The projects will be fun and take some time to finish so there is a great value here. There are 25 designs but the publisher has included two of each design for a total of 50 coloring pages. I have to decide whether I will color the designs two ways or share the book with my husband and see how differently we color the same designs.While you can have access to .PDFs when you purchase this book, my review is based on the book as it is received from Amazon. That way you will know what the pages look like and how they accept color. I like that the publisher provides the digital version as well so you can choose the paper you wish to use and/or to color the pictures as many times as you choose.This is what I found while coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring medium:25 x 2 Detailed Garden inspired designsDesigns are printed on one side of the pagePaper is typical of CreateSpace: white, thin, slightly rough and non-perforated. The back of the page is printed black which is something I am find typical of Jade Summer coloring books.The designs do not merge into the binding. There is a heavy framing line at the outer edges of the design to give the project a more finished look, especially for framing.Glue Binding (there is room to cut the pages out if you choose to do so.)Though you cannot see the bleed-through easily due to the back of the page being printed in black, I recommend the use of a blotter page when working in this book. I use a page of card stock or several sheets of heavyweight paper under my working page. It keeps seeping ink and marring dents from ruining the pages below.Alcohol-based markers bleed through the page quickly.Water-based markers bleed through in spots.Gel pens and India ink pens leave shadows on back of the page. India ink can bleed through if you apply heavily or multiple coats.Coloring Pencils work well with this paper. I found that I could layers the same color for deeper pigment or multiple colors and I could blend easily using a blending stick. I tested both oil and wax based pencils. I also found that hard lead pencils leave dents through the paper.
I really like the garden images in this book, like that the images are single sided and there is a black background to hide any bleed through I thought that was a really innovative idea. I don't even mind that the images are duplicated. I planned to do one for one season and one for another. What I can't get past is the awful quality of the paper and the smudgy ink. The paper has a yucky grainy quality that you actually feel when the pencil is moving across the page. If you try to blend your colors and you catch the edge of the image, the ink that the image is printed with will smear creating an ugly gray mess. This isn't even a case of you get what you pay for because I have $4 dollar books that are far better. I was really excited when I ordered this book and had every intention of getting more books from this artist. This experience has certainly cure me of that. I won't be getting anything else from this artist or publisher.
Very fun pictures to color! Lots of flowers, leaves, gardens, birds, gazebo, bridge, fountain, etc. I use colored pencil and alcohol makers. The back of each coloring page is black so the alcohol markers don't show on the other side. The book includes two copies of each design so you can color them in two different versions. It also includes a PDF of the book that you request from the author's website with the access code and title of coloring book. I received the PDF version in less than 24 hours.I colored these pages with Copic alcohol markers.
Lovely drawings. I love them all. The 25 scenes repeat later but I love coloring gardens and trees a lot, it makes me feel as though I am in a calm, verdant and serene place!
I have tried several different colored pencils none of them work and it looks terrible with a blender, If you are good with markers then this book may work for you, I can't get not one pic to work out with colored pencil I have tried Crayola, Prang, and Prisma colors all of which have not worked with the paper.... I do wish that the paper quality was different, this book would be great if the paper was different it is like a fuzzy feel to it and the back of each page is black... Unless you plan to reprint the pictures on your own paper or you are skilled with markers I would not suggest this book. I do wish I could return it... cause for me personally it is just not working out... I also tried looking up coloring tutorials to see if I was doing something wrong I could only find tutorials that printed the pictures on different paper... the artist is so skilled but this is ruining the bookI personally probably wouldn't purchase any more of these cause the paper destroys the pictures
I love Jade Summers color book, and I am excited to purchase her color books of the adorable little girl sorry I forgot the name already. But the pictures are so adorable I cannot wait to order the three of them and get started coloring them as soon as I get extra money The Hidden Garden is an adorable coloring book. I have been using Winsor and Newton Watercolours, my Prismacolor Colored Pencils, Staedtlers triplus fineliners and my Prismacolors Premier Colorless Blender with coloring these beautiful coloring pages â¤ðŸ’•ðŸ’–ðŸ˜
