My almost-five year old cannot get enough of these books! He already owned other World of Reading books (specifically, World of Reading Marvel Boxed Set: Level 1 - Purchase Includes Marvel eBook!). However, my brainwashing has finally worked, and now he is a Star Wars fan. So when he got these books he was delighted! The sex includes six book with short stories from different movies. Each story covers a small sub-section of the movies (not the full movie).In this specific set, there are three books from the classic trilogy:- Escape from Darth Vader: How C-3PO and R2-D2 escape with the Death Star plans (from Episode IV, a New Hope)- AT-AT Attack!: The Empire's attack to the Rebel base in Hoth (from Episode V, The Empire Strikes Back)- Ewoks Join the Fight: Landing on Endor, meeting the Ewoks, fighting the storm troopers (from Episode VI, The Return of the Jedi)Then, there are another three books from the latest movie, Episode VII, The Force Awakens:- Finn & Poe Team Up!: Poe getting captures, Finn releasing him, escaping together- Chaos at the Castle: Arriving at Maz's castle, the battle, Leia's appearance- BB-8 Finds a Friend: Poe giving BB-8 a secret message, BB-8 meeting and befriending ReyThe books have very nice pictures, with all the characters drawn in a cute way without losing their original personality. It has some impressive scenes like the AT-AT drawing, and also appearance of key characters that my son loves, like Darth Vader and Kylo Ren (the dark side is strong with my little one, I guess).The books have 2-4 sentences per page, simple enough for him to read. They repeat words multiple times, which is good so it help him better understand the story. I have uploaded a couple of samples so you can get an idea.Overall, this is a fantastic set of books, and I have already pre-ordered the Level 2 set. If your child is into reading and likes Star Wars, you should be ordering this RIGHT NOW!
I hesitate to say "I love it" because truthfully, I could do without reading "AT-AT Attack!" fourteen times a day to my five year old, but then again these are intended to be beginning readers and they are certainly holding his attention enough that perhaps he will eventually start reading them himself. The box set is a great deal since the price as of this writing gets you six books for the equivalent of the cover price of 2.World of Reading did a good job using concise subplots/events to make self-contained stories, and the vocabulary is appropriate for the reading level. The stories are easier to follow if you know the movies, but my kiddo has not seen any of the movies yet and still finds them compelling.
Got these for my son in kindergarten and he loves them. He is a big Star Wars fan. Many of the words are difficult for beginning readers, and in general the books are more difficult than I thought they would be. But since he is such a fan, it has inspired him to try to read them. He is much more interested in reading these books than the generic stories in other early reader books. I have to help him with a lot of the words, but his enthusiaum is high. These books are better for first graders, or more advanced kindergarten readers, not beginners. But they are great for encouraging a young Star Wars fan. There is one story from episode 4, episode 5, and episode 6, and there are 3 stories from episode 7.
I saw these on the scholastic book order my son brought home for about twice the price as Amazon. We purchased this for a Christmas gift and it will be sure to please our Star Wars obsessed 5 year old.
My kinder grandson reads these by himself. I have to go back and get Levels 2 and 3. Finding something they enjoy reading really helps them to become better readers. I really like getting these leveled readers (many kinds available) because you can get them to "fit" the individual child, not just something they have to read to learn to read. I taught first grade for 25 years and HIGHLY recommend these and other leveled readers.
My son and I are both star wars fans and he is learning to read. However this was a terrible purchase. The words are far too advanced for step 1 book. Also I know that as it is star wars book to expect a lot of star wars specific words but there are too many (Darth Vader, light saber, star destroyer). Very few sight words. I am reading for him every third word before we give up after 6-7 pages. This would be good for a 2nd or maybe 3rd level but not for a step 1.
Great books for kids that love Star Wars and are beginning reading. My boy totes this sturdy cardboard case around and lives that they're all his own books.He's finished collections 1-3 of the Bob books and reads these on his own. The names of the planets/characters are the most difficult, but if your child has watched/read Star Wars stuff, they should be able to sound out those words.
I'm glad when I bought these they were on a good sale. The slip cover case was damaged on one of the corners. This is twice now that Amazon has sent me damaged products. The stories follow the same storyline as the movies. Overall it is a good easy reader set for a beginning reader who loves Star Wars.
